Sam is a 4th generation Eyre Peninsula farmer, with experience in business management, accounting, logistics and operations, and marketing, amongst other skills.

Sam was the Mayor of the District Council of Tumby Bay for over 7 years, with another 4 years previous as an elected member. Sam was the President of the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA SA) from 2018-20, and in various roles on the LGA SA Board for a total of 7 years. Sam was on the Australian Local Government Association Board for over 3 years, and was the President of the Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association for more than 4 years. Sam is a passionate EP community member and has been involved in various community, church, and sporting groups, as well as having strong involvement in youth leadership and mentorship.
