A Select Committee of the Legislative Council has been established to inquire into and report on the Children and Young People (Safety and Support) Bill 2024.

The purpose of the Bill is to protect children and young people and keep them safe from harm and preferably with their families, to support and strengthen families and communities to improve outcomes for children and young people, to support children and young people who are in care, to promote working in partnership with families and carers, to support children and young people leaving care, to make related amendments to other Acts, and to repeal the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017.

The inquiry is limited to the content of the Bill. The Committee will not be considering, nor does it have power to intervene in, individual cases.

Any person or organisation wishing to make a submission to the Committee is invited to do so by COB 10 January 2025.
